Overview β€” What This Toolkit Does

This toolkit bridges ArchiCAD and Claude AI to produce accurate Bills of Quantities. You don't type measurements manually β€” you export a schedule from ArchiCAD, feed it to Claude with one of these prompts, and Claude returns a measured table. You then bring that table into the BOQ Builder, apply your live rates, and export a priced document.

Step 1 β€” Export Your ArchiCAD Schedule

1
In ArchiCAD, go to Documentation β†’ Schedules & Lists β†’ Element Schedule (or Interactive Schedule).
2
Set the element filter to the trade you need β€” e.g. filter to Walls only, or Slabs, or Doors.
3
Include these fields: Element ID Material Width/Thickness Height Area Volume Building Story Layer
4
Export as CSV (preferred) or PDF. Save it somewhere accessible.
πŸ’‘ Tip: Run separate exports per trade β€” one for walls, one for floors, one for doors. This keeps each Claude conversation focused and produces cleaner output.

Step 2 β€” Copy a Prompt and Use It with Claude

1
In the sidebar, choose Interior Fit-Out or Exterior Build depending on your project type.
2
Find the prompt that matches the trade you exported (e.g. Wall & Partition Takeoff for wall elements). Click Copy Prompt.
3
Open claude.ai in a new tab. Start a new conversation. Paste the prompt.
4
On the next line, paste your ArchiCAD CSV data directly, or use the attachment button to upload the file.
5
Claude will return a structured BOQ table with quantities measured to NRM2/SMM7 standards. Copy that table into Excel or use the values in the BOQ Builder below.
πŸ’‘ Tip: If Claude's output is missing some elements, reply: "Please also include any elements where the layer name contains [X] β€” they may have been grouped differently in the export."

Step 3 β€” Update Your Rate Book

1
Go to Rate Book in the sidebar. You'll see 41 built-in Kenya market rates across all trades.
2
To update a rate: double-click the number in the Rate (KES) column. Type the new value. Press Enter to save. It updates instantly.
3
To add a new rate: click + Add Rate and fill in the code, description, category, unit, and price.
4
To filter rates: use the search bar, the Category dropdown, or the Type filter (Interior / Exterior / Both).
πŸ’‘ Tip: Keep rate codes consistent with your office standard β€” e.g. INT-W01 for interior wall items. This makes BOQ exports easier to reference.

Step 4 β€” Build and Export Your BOQ

1
Go to BOQ Builder. Enter the Project Name and Reference number at the top.
2
For each line item from Claude's output: select the matching rate from the dropdown, enter the quantity (in the rate's unit β€” mΒ², mΒ³, nr, etc.), and click + Add Line.
3
The BOQ auto-calculates each line total, the subtotal, overhead & markup, VAT, and the grand total.
4
Click ↓ Export BOQ CSV to download a dated, formatted CSV file ready to send to a client or import into Excel.
πŸ’‘ Tip: Adjust Markup % and VAT % in Settings before exporting. The BOQ Builder applies them live so you can see the effect before committing.
